Curbside Recycling Program coming to Makiki in November 2009

The City & County of Honolulu’s Curbside Recycling Program will be expanded to include Makiki in November 2009. Under the recycling program, every household will be given three carts for sorting your waste – gray for refuse, green for green waste, and blue for mixed recyclables. The collection days will probably remain the same as before (though for a few neighborhoods, the days might change), but one collection day will be for refuse in the gray cart and the other will be for recycling pickup, alternating weekly between the green and blue carts. Instructional brochures will be distributed to all households before the program is implemented. For more information, see the City’s Curbside Recycling Program web page.

If you don’t want to wait until your scheduled pickup day for recyclables, they can also be taken to any of the Community Recycling Bins.
