Friends of the Makiki Community Library is hosting a fundraiser this year to benefit the Makiki Community Library. ”A Taste for Books” will be held on November 16, Tuesday from 6-8 pm at St. Clement’s Church.
Come and enjoy wine, pupu’s and a silent auction. It’s also a great time to meet your neighbors and learn more about the library!
Tickets are $25 and all proceeds go directly to MCL. Tickets are available at the Makiki Community Library, via PayPal or email us at tickets@makiki.info
Hope to see you there! Support your community, support the library.

‘Ohana Komputer and Makiki Community Library (MCL) have partnered to present Free Community Computer Classes for Adults and Keiki. Since 1995 ‘Ohana Komputer has been setting up Community Technology Centers which give free computer classes to those who need it most.
“A major focus of our work is leveling the technological playing field for disadvantaged children and adults throughout Hawaii and the Pacific region.
Many of our keiki and kupuna are without a computer at home, and don’t have the opportunities to learn computer skills in school.”
Friends of the Makiki Community Library have organized many events such as Rediscover Makiki, Easter Egg Hunts, storytelling hour, Halloween parades and various food drives and recycling events.
“MCL has always been a hub for community activity, so the partnership with ‘Ohana Komputer was a perfect fit”, said Della Au Belatti, State House of Representatives for the Makiki district (District 25) and who also serves on the board for MCL. “The library houses and supports the Technology Center while ‘Ohana Komputer teaches the classes.”
To see the schedule of classes and for more information, we have added a new link under the ‘Calendar’ tab. Register before the new class schedule begins on November 1. To sign up call ‘Ohana Komputer at 523-8191.

Many French songs evoke vivid poetic portraits of elusive gypsies. The classes will intertwine conversation with grammar and vocabulary, building in an informal atmosphere (not to mention some entrancing tunes!)
